You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy coffee, and that’s pretty close.

Today we are discussing The Kumback Café in Perry, Oklahoma.

Welcoming visitors and local patrons since 1926, the Kumback Cafe is regarded as an authentic Perry institution. Step inside this historic cafe and see pictures of celebrities like Pretty Boy Floyd and various Perry heroes lining the walls. Dig into homestyle dishes like fluffy omelettes and pancakes for breakfast, or chicken fried steak and roast beef sandwiches for lunch and dinner. Kumback Cafe is also known for its delicious selection of homemade pies. Kick back at Kumback Cafe, where the service is friendly and the coffee is hot.  “A history lesson with a side of chicken fried steak.”

Perry, Oklahoma was born of the 1893 land run, which opened the Cherokee Strip for settlement. At noon on September 16, 1893, the sound of a pistol signaled the beginning of the great race to stake a claim and take title to 160 acres of virgin land. The town of Perry sprang up in a single day with 40,000 residents of the tent city by nightfall.

These determined settlers created a community on the plains that still thrives today. Immerse yourself in the exciting history of the land run at the Cherokee Strip Museum & Rose Hill School in Perry, or brush up on local wrestling legends with a trip to the Perry Wrestling Monument Park. Be sure to stick around to enjoy the local flavor at family-owned restaurants with a long history of satisfied diners, or spend the day relaxing at Perry Lake.
